First, I need to apologize to those of you who were on the Facebook live video yesterday. I didn’t have my screen set properly so the comments were not scrolling. So it looked like no one had anything to say, and as a result I ended the video too soon. When I realized my mistake, I got back on live, but by then most had moved on to other things. So, please accept my apology, and now that I know how to do this a bit better, next time will be better. Let’s try again, Thursday, September 17 ...

Finishing up Scrap Dance Twist, I loaded it on the longarm to quilt it. Originally, I had planned to make a full size quilt, but halfway thought the process, decided to go a bit bigger. What I forgot was I had already purchased a lovely piece of wide backing with a nice leafy green print. Uh, oh.
Now, it was just barely enough for the quilt, so I had two choices. I could either buy another backing or add to the one I had. I looked online and didn’t find anything I liked as well as this one. More ...
read moreNow that the Twist is assembled, I have a pieced border option to complete the chain. I’ll show you that option, along with a plain border and some pieced scrappy ideas, so you can choose what you’d like to do.
The pieced border will be 2/3 of the chain block, alternating with a plain background unit. Details and numbers of squares are given in the download. First, gather more scraps and background, make some four patches, and assemble this unit.
Then, alternate this unit with the plain background unit. Place the pieced unit next to the footprint ...
read moreThe day you have been anticipating is here! Today I’ll show you the final design and reveal The Twist!
With the remaining background and scrappy 4-1/2-inch squares, and the HSTs you made in a previous step, make this block. I am calling it a footprint block.
Here’s mine.
Press to the outside for the center row, and to the inside for the top and bottom rows. Press the row seams to the outside.
Now for the Twist! Gather all your blocks, and lay out the first row with all your Block B footprint blocks pointing in the ...
read moreTime for the next clue in our Scrap Dance Twist Mystery Quilt Along! We are getting close now, and will take a big step forward today. Then, in two weeks, I’ll do the reveal. After that, I’ll give you border options, and then quilting and finishing.
Using the 4-1/2-inch scrappy squares, and the 4-1/2-inch background squares, make this unit. You’ll need the number shown in the table in the download. Don’t do more than you need, the rest of the squares of those sizes will have another purpose.
Then using that unit, make Block ...
read moreA problem in the math for the crib size of our Scrap Dance Twist Mystery Quilt has been brought to my attention, thank you, Pat! I also realized the full size is off as well. Before we get started on today’s Twist, I want to say thank you to all who emailed after the storm, and asked about our ‘pets’. I haven’t seen George, so I don’t know if he is OK. But our little beggar has been around. We’ve named the squirrel Oliver, as he seems to look like he is saying “please, can I have some more?” How can I not feed a poor hungry squirrel?.
Now, to the Twist, ready for the next step? Hopefully you caught up with the four patches and HSTs. If at any time ...

read moreAre you caught up with the Scrap Dance Twist steps? Today we get to the next one and it is the one you’ve probably been waiting for, or should I say dreading, LOL!!
This month, we get to those inevitable HSTs. Pull the remaining 5-inch background and scrappy squares from your cutting stack. On the backside of your 5-inch background squares, mark two straight lines, 1/4 inches from a center line from corner to corner.
Pair the background square right sides together with a scrappy square and chain sew on the lines, or just on the inside edge ...
read moreIt isn’t hard for me to be an idiot, I can often take it to an art form, LOL!! Such was the case recently, when I came up with the marking idea for the Twist, using 2-1/4-inch lines. In the comments, reader Linda reminded me of an even simpler method that requires no marking at all! I have actually done this, but it was long ago and I totally forgot about it. So, here it is. If you haven’t gotten to this step in your Twist Mystery, here’s an even better idea to get the units ...

read moreTwistin’, twistin’, twistin’ the night awaaaaaayyyyyy!! I have been hearing Sam Cooke in my head for a couple of weeks now. I keep saying these mystery quilts name themselves, and it is still true. I had another name I wanted to use, but this one just wasn’t going to cooperate until I let it have the name it wanted.
The fun part of this one is its versatility. I have done colorations every which way from Sunday and it does great no matter what the background color. It is lovely with pastels and white, works in high contrast or ...
